Class Interview

I had the pleasure of interviewing my classmate Omar Cervantes. Omar grew up in Oxnard, CA with his mother and two siblings. Omar attended and graduated from Pacifica High School.
When asked what motivates him to attend college, he said he wants to be first in his family to go to college and get his degree. He doesn’t want to work in a low paying job his entire life. Currently Omar is completely focused on school. He was recently laid off from his job and is in the process of looking for new employment. Although he is looking for a new job, he enjoys being able to focus all his attention on his studies. At the moment he doesn’t have to worry about trying to juggle school, work and family.
Omar has two major role models in his life. His mother has always been an inspiration to him. She is very hard working and has done whatever it takes to support her family. She has always managed to make ends meet. Omar’s other role model is his older cousin. His cousin is very smart and has been like an older brother to Omar through out his life. Omar has also been a role model himself. He has taken on the role of mentor for his sister. His sister is always in need of Omar’s advice. Omar is always willing to help her in any way he can.
If Omar could describe himself in three words, he would say he is, outgoing, friendly and competitive. Omar is always up for a challenge and enjoys trying new things. He considers himself to be a good friend because he is very easy to talk to.
In five years Omar would like to see himself settling into working for a great company with high pay. He would like to work for a company where he can design video games. Omar has a “motto” he tells himself when college gets hard, “Never quit, you will regret it”.
Omar told me that he likes the maturity level of the people who attend Oxnard College. He thinks people are a lot less mature in high school then at college. He likes to be able to come to school and focus on his studies rather then drama. Omar stated that his only complaint about the college is there isn’t very any information guides on campus. In his opinion, it is very easy to get lost. He does however, like the professors of his classes and has had a great experience at college this far. Omar is very excited to succeed in life and is certain he will!
