Texting is today’s version of short
hand. It is quick and easy to use and it takes half the time when
communicating. People probably text more throughout the day than they talk
anymore. It was not until recently that I had any issue with this, but the use
of texting is becoming a dangerous way to communicate.
New commercials show texting between
family and friends to be deadly. The last one I watch was about a sister and
her sibling. The two of them were texting back and forth and the last text sent
by the sister not driving was “LOL”. The sister driving read it before she
drove off the road. I have no way to prove that these commercials are ligitament, but they do hit home.
I read the
text that my daughter sends back and forth between her friends. I can
completely understand them and I would say that she might have a future in
story telling. Then I helped her with her homework the other night and had to
correct words as simple as “before” or “together”. These are words that she
knew how to spell two or three years ago but since she has begun texting, words
have become too long to put into one message. I have limited her texting and
have found myself doing the same.
In todays
world, everything celebrity is in the news. There are countless articles, talk
shows, and even interviews claiming one celebrity or another, shamelessly text
something inappropriate to someone one else. If it had happened between two,
every day people, nothing would have been done about this. At the most, there
might have been some angry threats from a spouse, or stern talking to by a
parent. But the celebrities are losing millions of dollars. These amounts are
paid to court fees and others are to buy back some type of respect or
compensation for “mental stress”. It has become ridiculous but does pose a
vital threat to our society.
In my
opinion, texting should be kept to a minimum. Society does not need to know
what we are doing every second of every day. “LOL” is not a good enough reason
to die and my daughters will be raised to be just as educated, as they are
beautiful.
Mentioning the dangers of driving while texting was a great insight to the negatives that texting brings to everyone involved! Let alone the scandals that come along with texting rude and vulgar things that you can't take back, like you could in a real conversation. As the saying goes, "they are now etched in stone"!
ReplyDeleteYes i agree where texting should be kept at a minimum level. It almost amazes me how kids can write essays when they text as well.
ReplyDeletewe all should try to text a little more. I find it sad to see families texting more, and spending less time together.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your last paragraph. It isn't important to know everything that goes on in other people's lives. Also, I have seen that commercial as well, and it does make me think twice about texting people if I know they're driving. I do my best to avoid those situations.
ReplyDeleteQuick and easy to do so that is why we do it.We always want to find a shortcut to everything.
ReplyDeleteI agree with texting being kept to a minimum, texting does effect are writing skills a lot!!!
